Si Sa Ket hit by severe winter

(BangkokPost.com) - More than 600,000 people in Si Sa Ket province suffered from severe winter weather. Twenty-two districts in the northeastern province were declared as disaster-hit areas.

Si Sa Ket governor Seni Jitkasem on Thursday said the average temperature in the cold-stricken districts was below 15 degrees Celsius and it could potentially dip further.

The provincial authority had set up a special centre responsible for distributing winter clothes and blankets to needy families. Some of the districts that experienced the most severe weather included Kantharalak, Benjalak and Phrai Bueng.

Mr Seni assigned all districts and local administrative organisations to warn villagers, especially youths and elders, of dangers from severe weather conditions.

The governor also advised people to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages as they may misunderstand that alcohol can warm their bodies.
