Bangkok named 'Best Leisure Destination'

The Thai capital of Bangkok has been named 'Best Leisure Destination' in the Asia-Pacific region by readers of Business Traveller Asia Pacific magazine, the Thai foreign ministry announced.

The ministry said it was informed by the Thai consulate in Hong Kong that the magazine had presented awards to tourism organisations, hotels and airlines which were voted best by its readers in which the 'City of Angels' placed second in the 'Best Business City in Southeast Asia' category.

An awards ceremony held in London last week also ranked the southern Thai resort island of Phuket second in Asia-Pacific region for recreation while two deluxe hotels there were voted first and third in the 'Best Resort Hotel in Asia-Pacific' category.

Novotel at Suvarnabhumi international airport was ranked second in the category of 'Best Airport Hotel' in the region. (TNA
